Garfield AI: Helping Creditors Recover Small Debts in England
Garfield is an AI application that assists creditors collect small debt claims (of up to £10,000) in England. By guiding creditors through each step of the English small claims Court process, up to trial, Garfield aims to streamline debt recovery for both parties and the Court.
What Is Garfield?
Garfield uses artificial intelligence to help creditors prepare and manage claims for unpaid debts. Garfield drafts and sends letters, emails, Court forms, statements of case, skeleton arguments, prepares the Court trial bundle, drafts settlement offers and other documents. It also receives letters, emails and Court forms from debtors, law firms representing them, and the Court and assists creditors in processing them.
If you have received a letter or email from Garfield, it is likely that a creditor has asked Garfield to help them pursue a debt they believe you owe.
Please do not ignore the email or letter. If you do, you risk the creditor taking the debt recovery process to the next stage and this may cause you inconvenience and/or additional costs. If you want to make payment of the debt, please pay the creditor directly. If you want to discuss payment of the debt, please speak to the creditor directly.

1. Who do I contact about this claim?
If you are a debtor, you can reach out to the creditor directly using the contact information they have provided.
Alternatively, you can email Garfield at service@garfield.law. Please include the following information in the subject line to help Garfield identify your case:
- The unique ID assigned to this claim by Garfield (you can find this on Garfield's letters);
- The names of the parties involved; and
- The Court claim number (if any).
Because Garfield is an AI product, there is no currently telephone number you can call to speak to Garfield. We may introduce such a telephone number in the future.
2. How do I pay the creditor? Do I pay Garfield?
Please pay the creditor directly. Garfield does not accept payments on a creditor's behalf. The creditor's bank details will be shown on a polite chasing letter or a letter before action you received from Garfield. If you need more information about making payment, you can also call the creditor directly to discuss payment options.
3. I cannot pay in full or at all. Can I negotiate a discount?
If you want to discuss a settlement or propose a reduced amount, you have two options:
- Email a settlement offer to service@garfield.law; or
- If you are a debtor, telephone or write to the creditor directly to negotiate.
4. I need help with my debts.

5. I need to serve legal documents on Garfield. How do I do that?
If you are the debtor or are legally representing the debtor and need to serve legal documents on Garfield, you can email the documents to Garfield at service@garfield.law. Please include the following information in the subject line to help Garfield identify your case:
- The unique ID assigned to this claim by Garfield (you can find this on Garfield's letters);
- The names of the parties involved; and
- The Court claim number (if any).
6. I am a Court official or a Judge and I want to send a document to Garfield. How do I do that?
